We suggest the sign post be in the ground 36", where soil conditions permit. In very hard soil a lesser depth may be acceptable. Please check with local city government for any suggestions they may have.
In addition, for SAFETY reasons, we recommend that when attaching the sign to the sign post that the bottom of the sign be seven feet from the ground. Also, rather than using a 10 ft. or 12ft. channel sign post, we suggest you use two shorter channel posts for each installation and bolt the two posts together with a 15" overlap. Because of wind and other adverse weather conditions, we recommend that when installing signs with a width greater than 24", you use a heavier, 3 lbs. per foot base post (post driven into the ground) and a lighter weight, 2 lbs. per foot extension These two post sections should then be bolted together so as to reach the proper height to the bottom of the sign.
